Nixon Funeral Home
The R.J. Nixon Funeral Home offers our clients the very best in a modern and
convenient funeral facility. Located in the very heart of Downriver, the
funeral home has occupied the corner of Biddle Avenue and Vinewood since 1949.
We are easy to find, in close proximity to Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, and
in a beautiful, non-congested area just north of Downtown Wyandotte. This
large structure can easily accommodate several services at the same time and
is smoke-free. We offer plenty of off-street parking in our well-lit lot. |

Main Entrance
The main entrance of the funeral home is easily accessible from the parking lot and features an exterior portico that allows visitors to be dropped off at this entrance under a large overhang, shielding the visitors in inclement weather. The entrance itself features a cathedral ceiling and beautiful marble waterfall fountain that soars over ten feet high! The fountain is guarded by matching beautiful angel statuary. The decorations are changed to match the changing seasons.

Lobby
Our lobby area wraps around the visitation, service, and office area. It is
quite wide and affords a wonderful common area for guests to mingle away
from the more quiet areas of the building. It features comfortable seating
areas, spacious bay windows, as well as our beautiful marble water fall
fountain at the north end of the building.

Chapel
The chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home will comfortably seat 160 guests and
was designed in a French Provincial style. Our clients appreciate the option
of having a church-like setting without leaving the comforts of the funeral
home for the service. Organ and piano are provided as well as a complete
modern sound system. This room provides a beautiful, peaceful location for a
meaningful funeral service. |

Keepsake Shop
Our keepsake is a wonderful little place to visit, or at least our lady
guests and younger people think so. Unique items are offered for sale from
under one dollar and up. Many of the items are of inspirational nature and
provide a nice gift for those in grief. Others are very whimsical and
provide a diversion from the sad nature of a funeral home visit. Most of the
customers of the shop have come to attend a funeral or visitation but we
find an increasing number who just come in to visit our store. We know of no
other like it.
Major credit cards, cash and checks are accepted for payment. |

Lounge
Our upstairs lounge provides a place for our guests to take a break and
enjoy a well deserved cup of coffee or tea with friends. It is a
particularly light room with two large windows overlooking Biddle Avenue and
a huge bay window. Coffee and tea are provided during business hours. Some
families choose to provide their guests with food items during certain hours
of visitation. Please check with your funeral director or a member of our
staff for these regulations. |

Vinewood Room
This is our original viewing area and provides a very "comfy", homelike
feel. Indirect lighting and extensive use of draperies give the room a very
opulent atmosphere. The room is very large and can accommodate a large
family and their visitors, but because of its layout, smaller families do
not feel overwhelmed. It provided the ambience of a parlor in a fine old
Wyandotte home. |

Wabeek Room
The Wabeek visitation area is our largest room in our facility. It is a combination area that can be used for visitation periods or funeral
services. It can be separated by a modern folding wall to provide an area
for two family viewings at one time. A large screen plasma tv is provided in
this area that plays dvd's and vcr tapes to share family memories or to
display a video as a meaningful part of the funeral service. Piano and organ
are included as well as a multi-functional sound system. Seating is spacious
and comfortable and we offer many options to make the seating arrangements
to accommodate each family's preferences. The room features upholstered
chairs, folding seats, conversation areas and open standing room. |

Showroom
Our area to display common funeral merchandise such as caskets and vaults,
printed material and grave markers is located on our upper level (accessible
by elevator). This area has been recently remodeled and flows easily from
one merchandise area to the next. Our clients find it very inviting and
much less intimidating than the old casket showrooms that only contained
open casket and vault displays. Personalization is very important to our
clients, and this room offers many options in meaningful caskets, burial
vaults, and cemetery markers. The room is designed so that clients can make
their own choices without intensive supervision or explanation by our
directors. The decisions that clients make here are most important to
providing a lasting tribute to a family member. The showroom is easy to
navigate, allowing the family to select the merchandise that they feel
comfortable with. |

Conference Room
The conference room is where the family meets with their funeral director to
plan the services that are to be provided. This room features a bay window
with another spectacular view of Biddle Avenue and a large dining room like
table to sit with our guests. We have long ago abandoned the formal idea
where the funeral director sits behind their desk to deal with clients. We
now sit at the table together and share thoughts and ideas, composing a
personalized, meaningful and affordable service plan with the best value to
our clients. Our funeral directors feel that their role in this room is to
facilitate and provide options to our clients. After a family is provided
with the information they need, it is their choice to choose what will best
fit the wishes of their family. |
